Toy Drift

The crew at Coin App has been tinkering with various game ideas over the years and we finally got around to releasing our first iOS app, Toy Drift. It’s a little mission-based kart racing game that we put some love into, and we hope you enjoy it.

Max Blastronaut on CO-OP

Since the first time I saw the 1UP Show video podcast several years ago, I dreamed to work on a game that would be featured on the show. Well, they shut down before I could fulfill that dream, but the spirit of the show lives on in CO-OP, a new video podcast created by former 1UP staffers who now work for Revision3. In a most excellent twist of fate, Max Blastrontaut and the other 2009 Dream Build Play finalists were featured in a recent episode of CO-OP. Dream completed.

In other news, we updated maxblastronaut.com with a new trailer and screenshots. Enjoy!

Screenshots and Videos

For the last six weeks we’ve been releasing new screenshots of Max Blastronaut every Friday on coinapp.com, and, if you haven’t seen them yet, you are missing out. In addition to the weekly screenshot posts, we now have dedicated screenshot (screenshots.coinapp.com) and video (videos.coinapp.com) sections on the sidebar of the page. Hopefully this will make it easier for people to catch up with the latest improvements going into our game. What are you waiting for? Click on over to coinapp.com!

Dream Build Play Winners Announced – We Got 2nd Place!

The Dream Build Play 2009 winners have finally been announced and we got 2nd place! In this year’s competition, I think it’s safe to say it would be an honor to sit alongside any game in the top 20. I’m amazed at what all the competitors have come up with. Congrats to all the teams in this year’s competition, and a big thank-you to my Coin App brethren, the XNA community, Microsoft, and my girlfriend for tolerating my schedule over these past few months.

Just over a year ago I was finishing up my art degree, and now I’m the lead programmer on a Dream Build Play finalist team. It’s been a crazy ride. I can’t wait to see where we go next.

One Reason I Love Making Games

Although the Coin App crew wasn’t able to make it to PAX this weekend to see our game on display in the Microsoft XNA booth, friends and community members have been taking pictures and videos of our game being played. Thank you all for sharing with those of us who didn’t get to join you in Seattle.

I’m only going to re-post a single image here, as I think it pretty much says it all.

Max Blastronaut – DBP 2009 Finalist!

It’s finally public knowledge, Coin App’s first game, Max Blastronaut, is a finalist for Microsoft’s Dream Build Play 2009 game development competition. Out of more than 270 games that were submitted, we’re now in the top six! In my book, anything that happens at this point is a win for us. Simply being next to the other amazing finalists is an honor in and of itself. Big congrats to all the other teams as well!

The winner be announced in just a few days, so stay tuned for an update. Until then, check out Patrick Klepek’s preview of all the Dream Build Play finalists over at G4TV.com.

2009-09-05 Update:
Matthew, co-creator of Duality ZF and all around XNA community good guy, has posted videos of the top 20 games from this year’s Dream Build Play competition. Thanks Matthew!

Dream Build Play 2009

Coin App has officially submitted our game, Max Blastronaut, in Microsoft’s Dream Build Play competition. It’s been a lot of work to get to this point, but there are some new visual goodies for you to see now. I’d suggest starting at the new website that Dan made for us: http://maxblastronaut.com. Big thanks to Daemon Hatfield for the nice little writeup at IGN.com and to the Flashbang/Blurst boys for their shoutout, which got the ball rolling for a mention on Indiegames.com. If you’re not in the mood for reading, you can jump directly to our newest trailer video on youtube.
